Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) is an independent, not-for-profit product-safety testing and certification organization. We have tested products for public safety for more than a century.

Since our founding in 1894, we have held the undisputed reputation as a leader in product-safety testing and certification within the United States. Building on our household name in the United States, UL is becoming one of the most recognized, reputable conformity assessment providers in the world. Today, our services extend to helping companies achieve global acceptance, whether for an electrical device, a programmable system, or an organization's quality process.

Whip UL Certified

As indicated on Certificate Number 130701-AU3553 issued November 28, 2001 by Underwriters Laboratories, Whip Industries automotive lift models WA-09, WA-10, WA-09 and WS-11 were tested and certified to meet the stringent specification in the Standards for Automotive Lifts - Safety Requirements for Construction, Testing and Validation, ANSI/ALI ALCTV - 1998 and the Standard for Garage Equipment, ANSLI/UL 201 - 1997.

This specification covers lifts designed to raise vehicles that are typically used in facilities for service and repair. The testing involved in this process is extensive andCARRIAGE.jpg (15096 bytes) exacting, and there are specifications called out for virtually every part of the lift.

There are specifications for materials used, all hydraulic components. There are specifications for welding, swing arms, travel limits, out of level conditions, and many many more. In all there are no less than 28 General and Specific requirements.

Certification also requires Proof Load Tests, Click Pic Too EnlargeOperation Tests, and Lowering Speed Tests along with many other physical tests.

The lift pictured is a Whip Industries WS-11 being Proof Load Tested with 16,500 pounds of sheet steel on it, which is one and on-half times the stated capacity of that model.
