Whip Industries was initially started to
serve as a captive production facility to supplement the fabrication
requirements of a major lift manufacturer.
Our primary function was to produce the
major steel components that make up surface mounted automotive lifts. Whip
produced the tubular components for the carriages, swing arms and other
sub-assemblies that make up the lift. Whip also manufactured the fabricated
details that required shear, precision punch and forming such as brackets
and plates.
The primary structural component of any
lift is the vertical column, or "leg". We have lost count at this time
but we easily have produced over 100,000 columns that are presently in use in the field today.
As our business began to grow we
recognized our exposure by being
captive to one primary customer. We began to
pursue additional relationships and from our original staff of two in 1990 we
currently employ 85 people and occupy 100,000 sq ft. of manufacturing space. Our
customers include the USAF, USN, Bell Helicopters, Major OEMS involved in
highway construction and many others.
Shortly after our lift OEM account was
purchased by the Dover Corporation, they began a campaign
to move the components from Whip Industries. This was accomplished by moving
some of the work to preferred vendors and the balance was moved in house.
As we recognized the future was less than
promising we were forced to take our product knowledge and experience to the
marketplace. Our current management has a combined 109 years of experience in
the design, manufacturing, and marketing of automotive lifts.
Along with the varied custom products we
furnish to our customers under their design authority, we now offer over thirty models of automotive lifts to our distributors.
